Emotional literacy in a class group

Using TalkiT, a computer-based profiling tool managers, staff and young people can see what is happening in the personal and social dynamics of any group of learners from a whole year to a small teaching group.

The group profile is built from individual profiles. It can be viewed as a single plot.

The differences between boys and girls

The group can be divided to see smaller group differences such as boys and girls. In the work so far, several statistically significant differences have been found between the emotional literacy of boys and girls. with the girls significantly better than the boys in:

  • optimism
  • staying on track with the school’s rules and expectations
  • working with other people, especially when they have to share
  • finding ways to fit into the social group
  • communication than boys
  • empathy
  • being helpful, probably as a response to their greater empathy
