Teaching approaches for emotional literacy



One of the most effective teaching strategies for developing emotional literacy in a group of young people is circle time. We have worked extensively with circle time approaches to:

  • Create a supportive classroom climate
  • Deliver the learning outcomes of the personal, social and health education (PSHE) curriculum
  • Build learning relationships
  • Challenge stereotypes
  • Encourage reflection and change

Training and consultancy are available for all aspects of circle time including:

  • Circle time for emotional literacy in primary schools
  • Circle time for form tutors
  • Developing a PSHE curriculum using circle time
  • Monitoring and evaluation using the circle
