There
is a growing body of evidence to show that work on emotional and social competence impacts
on people's sense of wellbeing. This in turn has an effect on their academic and
scholastic success, their social relationships and their participation in learning.
On-going research at the University of Bristol is inquiring into the links between
emotional literacy young people's dispositions of learning. The research has resulted in:
methods of
assessing children's learning power against 7 dispositions of learning through the
Effective Lifelong Learning Inventory (ELLI)
processes for
engaging children and young people in conversations about their learning which result in
greater learning awareness and increased motivation in classrooms.
Marilyn Tew
