FAQ's

Q: How do I add a Tutors name to the log-in list?
A: There are a couple of ways of adding the Tutors; either:
create a CSV file for the Tutors (don't forget to change them to Tutor in the View PupilDB option of TalkiTUserExchange)
use the AddPupil option of TalkiT-S.
N.B. You can change the Access Level of anyone to be a Tutor in the Edit Names option of TalkiTSetup. Neither of the options above will create a profile for the added person.

Q: I have imported my CSV (Comma Separated Variable) file but only ‘Sysop’ is allowed to log-in, why?
A:

There are 2 possible reasons (although there may be more)
1) You didn't need/want to split the pupil database and it wasn't obvious that you still have to go through the split procedure using 'No Split' then click on 'Copy Now'

2) You did split the pupil database and need to use the 'Change Database Path' button to change to one of the sub folders. i.e. if you split by Form Year and the Form Years are alpha and beta then the two groups of pupils will have their own Users.mdb in ...\TalkiT\Data\alpha and ...\TalkiT\Data\beta
N.B. if you Change the database path you will also have to change the Sets Path to ...\TalkiT\Data to pick up the Schools4.Set (v2.1.3 only)

Q: A yellow message box appears with the words ‘Checking Profiles’. What is this?
A: When the program starts, and whenever the main screen is displayed, a security check is performed. On a fast computer this may not be noticed, but on a slower computer or a server with many users accessing it this may be noticeable. No other action is possible while this check is being performed.

Q: What is a Profile?
A: A profile is an on-screen questionnaire with a score box against each question. It is generated from a Set of questions usually produced by an expert team. After the questionnaire is scored by one or more people, the scores are grouped into Skills which the user can then view as a table of data (Action Plan) or graphically.

Q: What is the naming convention for a persons Profile?
A: Pupils profiles use a filename consisting of Pupil name + Set name.

i.e. John Smiths profile for Evaluating Skills would have a profile name of
‘John Smith–Evaluating Skills.Ind’.

Q: What are the naming conventions for a Profile Reference?
A: The Profile Reference must be less than 16 characters, it cannot start with a number and can only contain the characters A-Z and 0-9

Q: How do I get more Profile Licences?
A: See Add Licences for more information.

Q: When I try to login I get the error message The Microsoft Jet database engine cannot open the  file 'C:\ProgramFiles\TalkiT\Data\Users.mdb'. It is already opened exclusively by another user,   or you need permission to view its data. Why?
A: One or more databases have the Read Only attribute set, in this case Users.mdb or you do not have the correct access rights to the server.
